17/07/26PM playing with people: BNP Dhaka, Sep 16 (bdnews25.wapamp.com/Dhaka)
The BNP on Sunday alleged that the Prime Minister was 'playing' with the people by putting a 'controversial' person in charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs. "Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir has been known as a controversial person for his role in destroying public administration. The Supreme Court had once cancelled his membership of Parliament. He is also controversial as an MP," Standing Committee Member Khandker Mosharraf Hossain claimed at a discussion. "We believe the Prime Minister is playing with the people by assigning such a controversial person to an important ministry," he said. With barely a year in hand, the Awami League-led government has made a major shake-up to the Cabinet, bringing in five new ministers and two state ministers and changing portfolios. Alamgir, a former bureaucrat and one of the ruling party's policymakers, has replaced Shahara Khatun as the Home Minister. Shahara will helm the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. "The Prime Minister has reshuffled the Cabinet only to deceive the people," Mosharraf alleged. The BNP leader further claimed the incumbent government did not care about the people. Hossain pointed out that Mostafa Faruque Mohammed, Managing Director of SAHCO, a company owned by former communications minister Syed Abul Hossain who resigned over alleged graft in the Padma bridge project, has been given charge of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology. He came down hard on the government for keeping Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith in the Cabinet despite his alleged 'failures'. "The people of the country expected either resignation of the Finance Minister or his removal following scams like Hallmark one and the fall in share market. But still, he has been kept in the Cabinet despite the allegations," the BNP leader said. The discussion was organised by the BNP's cultural front at the National Press Club.
